Owls Head

I hiked Owls Head on 7/16/2015. This was peak number 560 for “The Grid over 60”. The weather was perfect for a long mid July hike, low humidity, temps in the 70s and enough wind to keep the bugs away. The hike starts out by crossing the suspension bridge over the East Branch of the Pemigewasset.

The trail which is an old logging railroad bed follows along the river and there are some nice views.

After taking the Black Pond bushwack and Lincoln Brook trails I reached the bottom of the Owls Head slide and started up. It is a steep and rough trail that gives you a pretty good workout.

There are some good views to the west of the Franconia Ridge.

I reached the summit ridge and then went over to the summit where I had my PBJ.

I took the Brutus bushwack down to avoid all the loose rock on the slide and also took the Fisherman’s Path back to the Lincoln Woods trail.

Only 16 peaks left to finish “The Grid over 60”.
