Hiked Mt. Garfield on 6/11/2015. This was peak number 556 for “The Grid over 60”. It was a nice day with temps in the 70s and enough wind to keep the bugs away. It’s 5 miles to the summit but it is pretty gentle although always up until the last .2 miles which is pretty steep. There are several stream crossings that were all easy with no wet feet.
There were a few flowers in blossom but the Painted and Purple Trilliums have gone by.
After 4.8 miles I reached the junction with the Garfield Ridge trail where the trail gets quite a bit steeper.
I quickly reached the summit where there were good views. I didn’t eat my PBJ there as it was only 10:15 and I wasn’t hungry. I stopped on the way down by a stream where there weren’t any bugs and ate there.
I met quite a few people on the way up as I was going down including one group of about 15 that were planning to spend the night at the Garfield shelter. Might have been kind of crowded. Only 20 peaks left to finish “The Grid over 60”.
