Galehead

Hiked Galehead on 5/7/2015. This was peak number 553 for “The Grid over 60”. Gale River Road wasn’t open yet so I had to park at Beaver Brook Cross Country area and walk the ski trails to get to the trailhead. It was another typical early spring hike with bare ground at the start and 3 feet of snow at the summit. Snowshoes were brought and used. I met the caretaker for the hut as she was walking down to go to a meeting and she said I would need the snowshoes, she was right.

First stop of the day was at Galehead Hut which was open on a caretaker basis. That means you can stay there and use the kitchen facilities but you have to provide your own food and bedding.

I then went the half mile up to the summit of Galehead.

Back to the hut to have my PBJ sitting on the rocking chair on the porch.

Started back to the parking lot and was surprised to find lots of wildflowers in bloom that had not been in bloom in the morning on the way up.

It was nice to see the flowers and no bugs out yet. Only 23 peaks left to finish “The Grid over 60”.
